FAITH UPDATE

Faith and I have just recently returned home from our trip to Rochester today. Things did not go as planned. Although Faith's cancer/tumors is under control, the side affects of her radiation keep getting the best of her. Last year, as you may recall, her good eye hemorrhaged twice...once in March and again in August. We knew of this because she told us she was seeing "purple," indicating that she was seeing the blood that had pooled in her retina. Today's exam under anesthesia showed another hemorrhage. Since Faith was not seeing "purple" this caught the doctor and us a little off-guard.

The plan is that Faith will return in a month for another exam under anesthesia with her doctor, as well as another retinal specialist from Mayo, who her doctor would have like to look at her today but unfortunately this doctor is out of town at the moment.

Her doctor did not treat with laser today for two reasons:

1. There was too much blood in the eye for him to be able to see what would need to be lasered
2. He wants to make sure that there isn't something else, other than the laser, that would better treat this and keep it from happening again. That's where the second retinal specialist will hopefully prove to be beneficial.

So once again we are back to keeping Faith "low-key." No roller-blading, no biking, no gym class, no scootering...nothing where a good tumble or fall could jar the current hemorrhage.
