Parker has been busy. TOO busy...and Scott and I haven't done much to prevent it. That's not how we usually do things. Not sure what happened already this school year, but it did and yesterday we decided to fix it now...and not let it continue to get worse. So, when Parker got home from school yesterday, Scott and I set out all his activity books for everything he's involved in. There was the homework binder, Cub Scouts book, Sunday School (his Bible and a recent Sunday School project he made), two AWANA books and a basketball (couldn't find a football so we used the basketball to represent all sports). Long story made short, what it boiled down is that AWANA (which Parker has been attending at a neighboring church) takes as much time as Cub Scouts and Sunday School combined...and more time that what he spends each day on homework. Parker told us that what he needs to do for AWANA really stresses him out. We completely agreed and told him that if he wanted to, he did not need to continue participating this year (last night would have been his third night). When we told him this, Parker started to cry...almost sob. When we asked him why he was crying, he said, "I'm just so relieved!"
Scott and I felt horrible that our poor little guy was so overwhelmed by his commitments that he was that stressed out. With Sunday School and Cub Scouts we think he's going to be just fine without AWANA. He'll be doing a project with the pastor at our church in order to receive his religious emblem for Scouts. Our pastor is so excited to get started. Scott gave him the information on Wednesday and Pastor Matt called Scott yesterday to let him know how excited he is to have an opportunity to work with Parker on this.
So...as of this week, Parker is a little more "free"...but still involved in activities that are helping him build his relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
