My dad is a great guy! He's 82, served in WWII, ran a business for forty-plus years, enjoys "puttering" in the yard or garage. He has marched in every Memorial Day and 4th of July parade, except two, for over 50 years. He and my mom (who is also a great lady!) will celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary next month.
It's weekends such as this coming holiday weekend that make me think about my dad even more. He is proud to be an American. He's proud of his country. He loves the flag of the United States of America. The words, "In God We Trust" are more than words printed on our money. Dad still has his WWII army uniform...and it still fits...and he's honored to be able to wear it when the time is appropriate. In a locked gun case at mom and dad's are many items from WWII. He use to be invited to the middle school to talk to 5th graders about his experience in the army...way back when...and has been interviewed by students about his army days. When our National Anthem is sung, dad always stands a little straighter than usual. He sings...not well...but he sings...and for him it's more than just words to a song. It's about respecting the principals and values on which our country was built. Patriotism is part of who he is, what he believes and what he wishes all would understand and cherish.
A friend sent this video to me this morning. I thought of my dad and all the people who have and who are serving our country. It's a beautiful tribute to them and to our God, from whom all our blessings flow.

I enjoyed the video, thanks for posting it. We have a lot to be thankful for, don't we? It is always good to remember the sacrifices that have been made by our parents and grandparents and those continuing to be made today for our freedom.
